ANNOTATION

The Department of Drilling, Extraction, and Transport Oil and Gas at the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”- Sofia trains students in the educational and qualification degrees of “Bachelor” and “Master” and in the educational and scientific degree of “Doctor”.

The training of students in the doctoral programme of Transport and Storage of Oil, Gas, and Solid Mineral Products is corresponds to the mission and objectives of the university and is in conformity with on basic enactments and regulations in the Ministry of Education and Science.

The educational process of the educational scientific degree of “Doctor” in the scientific course of study Transport and Storage of Oil, Gas, and Solid Mineral Products comprises all modern trends in the area of transport and storage of oil and gas and the respective technologies for these activities. These include: the transportation of liquefied and compressed natural gas; the storage and transportation of gaseous fuels (fuel gas); forecasting the consumption of energy resources; energy efficiency and sustainable development.

Lecturers from the department have delivered scientific reports at prestigious congresses in Russia, China, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, etc.

Modern educational trends are applied in the process of training, like: software, e- courses, simulators. Multimedia is employed for presentations of educational materials; special-purpose applications software and training programs are also used.

The doctoral programme forms highly qualified research and teaching staff and specialists for one of the main areas of the energy industry: the transportation of raw materials in all of its aspects. The existence of experts in this field is directly related to the national security of this country and to the development of energy security and infrastructure; hence, to the whole economy and its relations with the countries of the region.

The objectives of the training are as follows:

  • Creation of new scientific and applied products by using contemporary methods and research in view of the practical applicability of these products and their implementation in production and petroleum companies;
  • Supporting the development of research in synergy with companies in the sector;
  • Establishing conditions for and stimulating the scientific growth of young members of staff, as well as providing succession in the department teams.

The pedagogical activity of the doctoral students is expressed in the conduct of laboratory work, seminars, and practical training with the students.

The Department of Drilling, Extraction, and Transport Oil and Gas is the only unit within the higher educational institutions in this country, whereby specialists in this area are trained. This raises the tasks and responsibilities to a national level.
