DOCTORAL PROGRAMME
„GEOLOGY AND EXPLORATION OF MINERALS“

ANNOTATION

The training of PhD students is an integral part of the entire educational and scientific process in the Department of Geology and Exploration of Minerals. The main goal is to improve the qualification of PhD students and train them to be researchers, university lecturers, as well as highly qualified specialists in various scientific and applied fields of geology and exploration of different types of minerals. To achieve these goals, highly qualified lecturers and prominent specialists with experience in the research and exploration of minerals are provided.

The doctoral programme includes specialised courses aimed at providing knowledge and skills to set and solve scientific tasks according to the individual student’s plan – methods for field and laboratory research of metallic, non-metallic minerals, coal, oil and natural gas, statistical processing of the obtained data, creation of geological models of the deposits, etc. For this purpose, the department has a laboratory and information services for conducting research in the field of geological sciences, namely basic and regional geological research, prospecting, exploration and evaluation of deposits of various minerals, geological support of mining, development and application of various technologies, research and assessment of the geological conditions of the living environment, ecological aspects in the exploration and use of minerals, etc.

The PhD programme prepares highly qualified researchers capable of independently conducting scientific and applied research of all types of minerals, as well as activities for the implementation of modern theoretical and methodological achievements. As a result of the training, the PhD students are prepared to create new scientific products using modern methods and analytical techniques in the field of geological sciences, the study of geological features of different types of mineral deposits in terms of regularities in their spatial distribution, composition , conditions of formation and opportunities for complex and efficient operation.

At the same time, the PhD students are prepared as highly qualified research and teaching staff at universities and some specialised secondary schools.
