DOCTORAL PROGRAMME
“MINE AEROLOGY”

ANNOTATION

The objective of training in the educational and qualification degree of “Doctor” in the scientific course of study in Mine Aerology is to raise the qualification of the engineers holding a Master’s degree and to shape them as research workers, university lecturers, and highly qualified specialists in scientific and applied fields in such areas requiring knowledge of the principles of movement and propagation of air flows and the impurities they carry.

This goal is achieved through:

  • Offering of specially selected courses for training students taking a PhD, in compliance with the Law on Higher E Courses with a specific focus aimed at offering knowledge and skills to doctoral students whereby they could formulate and solve scientific tasks according to their individual curriculum;
  • Providing a laboratory base and information support for conducting research in the field of study, namely: modern equipment for measuring the gas composition of the air; continuous monitoring of the atmospheric environment; analysis of contemporary ventilation equipment, including such using wind energy;
  • Introduction of the mathematical modelling methods for a more accurate description and study of the propagation processes in various configurations – pipelines, jet flow, free stream, semi-restricted stream, flow through the porous media (mined-out areas in underground mines, pile heaps, and waste landfills);
  • Providing opportunities to work with special-purpose ventilation software applied in leading world centres and universities.

The motives for training personnel in the qualification degree of  Doctor and the major results expected from the training of doctoral students are as follows:

  • Preparation of highly qualified research staff, capable of independently conducting scientific and applied research work, as well as implementation activities, at a modern theoretical level and by employing contemporary methods;
  • Creation of new scientific products through the use of modern methods and analytical techniques and equipment in the field of mine ventilation;
  • Maintaining awareness of the latest world achievements in science and technology in the respective field of study;
  • Promoting the development of research activities towards other areas of mining sciences, in particular in the direction of technical safety.
