GENERAL INFORMATION
The library at the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” was established in 1964 as a branch of the Central Library of the Higher Technical Institutes.
The library at the UMG has been in the system of the Bulgarian University Libraries since 1953. The library with its unique funds provides the necessary scientific, technical and academic literature to the readers in the main scientific domains of the university: Mining and Geology. The library fund is systematically organised by the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), and encompasses different documental sources: books, periodicals, theses, research papers, etc.
The organisation of the library funds corresponds to the needs of the educational and research work and encompasses different documental sources – books, periodicals, theses, research papers, electronic sources of information, etc. The overall fund exceeds 114 000 library units.
The various library sections, Acquisition, Registration and Catalogues, Lending Books for Home, Reading Room for Books and Reading Room for Periodicals, provide contemporary reference and bibliographic services and inter-library lending. The use of the traditional catalogues is gradually being replaced by an electronic catalogue, electronic full text and reference data bases. By developing the automation of the library processes, the library at the UMG “St. Ivan Rilski” continues its participation in the overall free catalogue of the university libraries. The data from the electronic catalogue are included in the National Academic Library and Information System – NALIS.
